Religion Book Deals: September 27, 2023

Petersen Moves to Nelson

Nelson Books has secured world rights to two new books by author Tori Hope Petersen. Her debut book, Fostered, was a bestseller in the religion nonfiction genre, and now she is moving to Nelson to publish her next two books. The first book in the deal, titled Love Like You’ve Never Been Hurt, will be released in February 2025 and explores Petersen’s struggle with codependency and her healing process. The second book, currently untitled, is scheduled for publication in 2026 and will be based on Petersen’s branded phrase, “I love you already.”

Felicetti Sells Two to Eerdmans

Author and Episcopal priest Elizabeth Felicetti has sold two new books to Eerdmans Publishing. The first book, Saints of Mothers and Lost Things, is a memoir that challenges the traditional “cancer warrior” narrative. The second book, Shouting and Doubting with John the Baptist, is a 40-day devotional inspired by the prophet’s calls to repentance. Both books are scheduled for publication in 2025 and 2026, respectively.

Brazos Finds ‘Work’

Brazos Press has acquired the rights to The Story of Your Work by Tom Nelson. The book, set to be published in spring 2025, offers a theological study of professional life and explores how God shapes our lives through our work amid societal changes and uncertainties. It addresses the evolving nature of work, including hybrid models and gig economy, and aims to equip church leaders and congregants for life in the workplace.

A Woodcut Artist Lands at Broadleaf

Broadleaf Books has acquired Everything Could be a Prayer: One Hundred Portraits of Saints and Mystics by woodcut artist Kreg Yingst. The book will feature full-color block prints of 100 Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox mystics, contemplatives, and activists. Each portrait will be paired with scriptures, meditations, and prayers. The book, scheduled for publication in October 2024, is a visual exploration of spirituality and the power of prayer.

B&H Kids Celebrates Adoption

Lifeway Christian Resources/B&H Kids has acquired the rights to All the Babies: A First Book About Adoption. Written by Kate Rietema and illustrated by Holly Sterling, the board book is aimed at children aged 0-5 and aims to help families celebrate adoption and the unique qualities of every child. The book, set to be published in October 2024, emphasizes God’s role in creating every baby and the love that surrounds the adoption process.

IVP Kids Signs First Board Book

IVP Kids is expanding its publishing with its first board book, Jesus Loves the Little Children of the World. Written by Tara Hackney, the book features updated lyrics to the classic song and colorful illustrations showcasing children from around the world. With its target audience being children aged 3 months to 4 years, the book aims to introduce young readers to Jesus’ love for all children and the diversity of God’s creation. The board book is set to release in winter 2025.

Brazos Gets ‘Fully Alive’ in English

Katelyn Beaty, editorial director for Brazos Press, has acquired the English-language rights for Fully Alive by Elizabeth Oldfield. The book, scheduled for publication in summer 2024, explores Oldfield’s journey towards Christianity and draws upon classical teachings on virtues and vices. Oldfield, a senior fellow at Theos think tank and guest lecturer at the University of Birmingham, offers readers a thoughtful and thought-provoking exploration of faith.
